Winter Plush Fleece Throw

A plush throw earns its place from about October onwards. This one from Velora is made for the sofa you actually sit on: soft enough to pull over your legs without a second thought, large enough to share, and light enough that it never pins you to the cushions the way a heavy quilt does. It is the easiest way to make a living room feel warmer on a cold evening.

The plush face has a short, dense pile that holds warmth close without bulk, which makes it comfortable indoors rather than only on the coldest nights. Two sizes are offered, so you can choose a throw for an armchair or a larger drape for a three seater or double bed. Seven colourways run from light grey, ivory and charcoal through to rose blush, matcha green, ocean blue and terracotta for a deliberate accent.

It washes and dries quickly, which matters for a blanket that lives in a busy family room. Machine wash cool, then tumble on low or air dry, and skip fabric softener, which coats the fibres and flattens the pile over time. The surface holds its look after washing rather than pilling at the edges. Keep it away from open flames and portable heaters, and do not use it as bedding for infants.
